Just to summarize in brief, in 2006 we focused on eventing. Our competitions were eventing and combined A (which is dressage and jumping w/o the cross-country), and we also entered the FN-Hunterklasse which is closely related to the American Hunter Jumper competition but was only launched in Germany last year.
Since the season is almost over (and we had a three-month break in summer), we ended up in eventing/combined A with 1x1rst, 2x2nd and 2x3rd, 1x8th places. Besides, we entered 15 hunter and jumping classes and were placed 14 times!!
What was special this year, was that I was quite honored to have been invited by the Trakehner breeding association to a clinic with Andreas Dibowski (who is one of our best German eventers, and worldwide too)where we practiced indoor eventing (since it was winter and we are not so fortunate as to ride outdoors and cross-country as you are in Florida!) and jumping /gymnastics.
In March, I was asked to participate in a hunter training session for judges. As I mentioned, hunter competitions are fairly new in Germany, and therefore there is intensive schooling of the rules for participants and judges alike. I had to ride in front of about 60 regional judges and we enjoyed this quite a lot.
What is certainly a little different from the established hunter circuits in the USA, is that this competition is targeting senior riders. And since I am 40 this year, it came just right for me!!
